For the third consecutive day, search operations for 43-year-old Eleftheria Giakoumaki in Crete remain in full progress, with authorities intensifying efforts across a wide geographical area.
Police forces, EMODE units, as well as a specially trained search dog, are taking part in the operation, while aerial means such as drones are also being used in order to search even the most inaccessible locations. The focus of the investigation has been placed on the wider area around Mount Juktas and Vasileies, with particular emphasis on locating the missing woman’s vehicle, a factor considered crucial for the development of the case.
A key development is the discovery of the body of the woman’s former partner, who was found dead at a small chapel near Prophet Elias, in the area of Panagia Kardiotissa, in Xeri Kara. According to available information, the man took his own life using a hunting rifle.
This development significantly complicates the case, as the 40-year-old had previously been involved in the investigation into the disappearance. He had been brought in and questioned, but at the time no evidence had emerged to justify his detention. The fact that he left no note or any indication that could shed light on the case further deepens the mystery and leaves multiple scenarios open.
At the same time, reports indicate that in the past he had been injured in an incident attributed to a motorcycle accident, a detail that is also being examined within the broader investigation.
The police investigation is now developing along two main lines: on one hand, the search for the missing woman, and on the other, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of her former partner. Authorities are keeping all possibilities open, while searches continue at full intensity, as every new piece of information is considered critical to solving the case.
Mystery continues to surround the disappearance of 43-year-old Eleftheria Giakoumakis, whose traces went missing last Sunday from Daphnes, Heraklion.
The bizarre case was further complicated yesterday, Tuesday, when the 43-year-old’s former partner was found dead. The man was found to have sustained shotgun wounds to the head.
The 38-year-old man had been brought in by authorities as part of the investigation into the woman’s disappearance and had been examined, but was subsequently released. During the examination, officers noticed that he had scratches on his hands, which he justified by saying he had fallen off the motorbike.
Previously, the 43-year-old’s former partner had been at the centre of the investigation, as there were reports that he appeared to be jealous of her without anything coming up against him.
We also have reports that there are witnesses who say he was seen confused and asking for a taxi.
It should be noted that, as reported by protothema. gr, well-informed sources, while the man was being examined at the station, the missing woman’s mobile phone was transmitting a signal in the area of Afendi Christos, in Juktas, which extends to a radius of ten kilometres. The signal later went off, apparently due to a lack of battery.
The 43-year-old woman has been missing since Sunday, April 19. That day, she left her home in Daphne, driving a white Honda HR-V. Her fate has been unknown ever since.
Her son reported her disappearance, stating that the last communication he had with her was at 7:00 pm that day, when he received the automated message: “I’ll call you later”. Which never happened.
The police investigation is now moving along two lines: The first is to locate the 43-year-old woman. The second is to clarify the circumstances under which her former partner died. This is because the coincidence of the two cases can not go unnoticed.
A Missing Alert has been issued in the case at the request of Liberty’s relatives. Authorities are trying to locate her car to provide an additional point of reference for the investigation.
