Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney died at the age of 84, journalist Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News reported today on X.
He was one of the most powerful vice presidents in U.S. history and was described as the “architect” of the Iraq War following the September 11 terrorist attacks, as well as a member of the old guard of the Republican Party, which is quickly disappearing.
With his reputation as a hawk, he contributed to President George Bush’s initiative to invade Iraq based on intelligence – later proven to be incorrect – that Saddam Hussein had amassed weapons of mass destruction.
