A new earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Cyprus this afternoon, just a few hours after the strong tremor that had earlier shaken the island.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Center, the quake occurred 10 kilometers northeast of Paphos at a focal depth of 14 kilometers. The area is known for its seismic activity, and in the 1950s, a strong earthquake had also occurred there, causing casualties at the time.
The earthquakes of recent hours have been strongly felt across all of Cyprus, particularly in the districts of Paphos, Limassol, and Nicosia. They were also noticeable along the eastern Mediterranean coast. In fact, there have been numerous reports on social media noting that the tremors were of long duration. So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage.
