According to Serbian outlet Mozzart Sport, the Italian coach who previously led the Belgrade team during the 2018–2020 period is the frontrunner to succeed Željko Obradović as Partizan’s head coach.

Rapid developments have unfolded at Partizan following the heavy defeat to Panathinaikos, with news of Obradović’s resignation spreading quickly online in recent hours. While the club’s management is expected to make a final decision on accepting the resignation, the “black and whites” of Belgrade have reportedly already begun searching for a replacement for the seasoned coach.

According to Mozzart Sport, Andrea Trinchieri stands out as the most serious candidate to take over the team’s reins.

Trinchieri is no stranger to Partizan, having previously coached the club from 2018 to 2020, earning the fans’ admiration. Supporters remain convinced that, had the season not been cut short by the pandemic, he would have led the team to win the EuroCup.

Trinchieri, who also served as head coach of the Greek national team (2013–2014), is currently a free agent after leaving Žalgiris at the end of last season. His coaching résumé includes a tenure at Bayern Munich as well.

Mozzart Sport reports that Trinchieri was in Belgrade late last week, during Partizan’s match against Fenerbahçe. Although at that time there was no talk of Obradović’s departure, the situation has since changed drastically, forcing the club’s management to respond swiftly.

Partizan finds itself in a precarious position in the EuroLeague, holding a 4-9 record after thirteen games. The urgent hiring of an experienced coach is now deemed imperative.
