It is impossible for Hungary to accept and implement the European Union’s decision to phase out imports of Russian energy because it endangers the country’s energy security, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said today during a press briefing.
Szijjártó also stated that Hungary and Slovakia will appeal the decision before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) as soon as it is finalized.
Earlier today, the European Union agreed to gradually eliminate imports of Russian natural gas by the end of 2027 as part of an effort to end the bloc’s decades-long dependence on Russian energy.
