The Trump administration plans to appoint an American general to lead the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza, according to US and Israeli officials cited by Axios, with the decision further strengthening US responsibility for security and reconstruction in Gaza.
Washington has already established a civil-military coordination center in Israel to monitor the ceasefire and distribute humanitarian aid. Trump’s experts are expected to lead the
Peace Commission on Gaza, with Trump himself assuming the chairmanship. However, White House officials stress that there will be no US military presence in Gaza.
According to Israeli officials, the US ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, informed the Israeli government that Trump plans to appoint a general to command the ISF. “Waltz even said he knows the general personally and stressed that he is a very serious man,” an Israeli official said.
At the same time, a White House official said discussions have been held about the composition of the ISF, the Peace Council and a technocratic Palestinian government, “but no final decisions have been made or announced.”
The new restructuring will include the retreat of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the deployment of the ISF, while a new government in Gaza will be created under Trump’s administration.
