Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the delivery of the first Belharra frigate in his statements in Brussels ahead of the European Council meeting.

As he said, regarding the frigate Kimon: “The heart of Greece beats at the shipyard in Lorient, where the flag will be raised on the Belharra frigate Kimon. The government provides tangible support to the Armed Forces; the frigate is proof that the Armed Forces are entering a new era,” he emphasized.

Referring to Ukraine, the prime minister expressed his support for Kyiv, noting that Greece remains committed to a legally sound solution that can provide the country with financial stability.

He then stressed that “our country supports Ukraine and will back any solution that can provide it with financial stability, so that the country can be secure and continue to defend itself against the Russian invasion. However, any solution must be legally and fiscally sound and must ensure that specific national priorities that member states may have are also taken into account,” he said.

In any case, he came out in favor of reaching a solution. “We must not leave Brussels without finding a legally sound solution that will resolve the problems,” he said.

The prime minister noted that heads of state and government will also discuss the new multiannual financial framework. Greece, he said, supports cohesion policies and the Common Agricultural Policy. The goal is to secure “the necessary resources to create better conditions for European citizens and farmers.”
