Mitsotakis in Jerusalem: Defense, energy, and regional security at the center of talks

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s visit to Jerusalem aims to deepen the strategic relationship between Greece and Israel and strengthen the tripartite cooperation framework between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel

Newsroom December 22 08:32

This visit takes place amid a period of reshaping the regional security and cooperation architecture. The focus of the talks will be on defense and security, energy, connectivity, civil protection, and innovation, all aimed at ensuring stability and collective resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In Jerusalem, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will hold a private meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, followed by the Greece-Cyprus-Israel Tripartite Summit, which will also include the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The summit at the highest level is expected to send a clear message of political alignment and deepening cooperation on issues of common interest, as well as on safeguarding peace and stability in the broader region.

This visit is also part of Greece’s long-standing strategy to act as a reliable and honest interlocutor in the region. Within this context, Mitsotakis will visit Ramallah, where he will meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirming Greece’s consistent stance in favor of a political settlement of the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution.

Greece declares its readiness to contribute to the post-conflict phase in Gaza, both on a humanitarian level and through reconstruction efforts. It is also considering participation in a possible International Stabilization Force, emphasizing its active role in shaping conditions for peace and security.

Sources highlight that the Prime Minister’s visit confirms the continuity and depth of Greek-Israeli relations, as well as the importance Athens places on the tripartite cooperation framework, which has recently gained new momentum through meetings at the foreign ministers’ and energy ministers’ levels.
