Maria Sakkari gave Greece the victory at the United Cup in Perth, Australia, defeating Naomi Osaka in straight sets (2–0) in a high-level match that proved decisive for the Greek team.
After the end of the match, and while the discussion had turned to her on-court performance, the Greek tennis player was asked about the marriage proposal she received from her partner Konstantinos Mitsotakis, the son of the Prime Minister.
She chose to respond discreetly, saying: “I am a very lucky girl to have a partner whom I love and who loves me. He is exceptional, he gives me strength and courage.”
Sakkari remained focused on the importance of the victory for Greece at the United Cup, emphasizing in practice that her priority at present remains her presence on the court and her contribution to the national effort.
The “yes” to the marriage proposal
It is recalled that yesterday it became known that the Greek tennis player said “yes” to the marriage proposal from Konstantinos Mitsotakis. The couple, who have been in a relationship for five years, took the next step in their relationship, and the left hand of the tennis champion is adorned with an impressive ring from the Mitsotakis family that belonged to the mother of the future groom, Mareva Mitsotakis. The happy news was announced by the Prime Minister yesterday during coffee with the President of the Republic, who, smiling, even said that in 2027 the parents of the couple want to become grandparents!
Maria Sakkari, after the marriage proposal that took place during the Christmas holidays, flew to Australia, where she is competing in the United Cup. In the video she posted with Stefanos Tsitsipas, those who knew noticed the ring on her left hand, a sign of the engagement, while in another video upon her arrival in Perth, the ring was shining on her hand.
