In his first reaction after the airstrikes in Caracas, Donald Trump announced the arrest of Nicolas Maduro.
In a post on Truth Social, the U.S. president said that the leader of Venezuela was together with his wife and that both were transferred out of the country.
Maduro and his wife were arrested early Saturday morning by members of Delta Force, the U.S. military’s top special operations unit, according to information provided by American officials to CBS News.
The elite Delta Force unit was also responsible for the 2019 mission that led to the death of former Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
It is recalled that Maduro has been wanted in the United States since 2020 for the mass importation of narcotics into the country.
Trump’s post:
“The United States of America successfully carried out a large-scale operation against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who, together with his wife, was arrested and airlifted out of the country. This operation was conducted in cooperation with U.S. law enforcement authorities. Further details will follow. Today at 11 a.m. there will be a press conference at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
