Showers and thunderstorms are expected over the next few hours in many parts of the country, with the National Meteorological Service stating that the severe weather will continue until Thursday at noon (8/1).
In particular, intense localized weather phenomena are expected on Wednesday evening (7/1) in Epirus and Western Central Greece, while from the early hours until Thursday morning, strong phenomena are expected in Thrace.
Weather Forecast for Thursday (according to the National Meteorological Service)
Locally heavy rain and thunderstorms in the western and northeastern regions until the morning hours, gradually weakening.
In the rest of the country, partly cloudy conditions with local rain and isolated thunderstorms.
By late evening, phenomena will persist only in the eastern and southern regions.
Snowfall is expected in the mountainous areas of the mainland, and occasionally at lower altitudes in northwestern Greece.
Winds will blow from westerly directions, at 6–7 Beaufort, locally reaching 8 Beaufort.
Temperatures will drop nationwide, most noticeably in the west, central, and northern regions:
Northern mainland: 9–13°C
Other regions: 13–16°C
Southern Aegean: up to 17°C
From the evening hours onward, frost is expected in northwestern mainland areas.
MACEDONIA – THRACE
Weather:
Intermittent cloudiness with local rain and possibly isolated thunderstorms, gradually improving.
Snowfall in the mountains of Western Macedonia, and occasionally at lower elevations.
Winds:
Southwesterly 4–6 Beaufort, shifting to northwesterly from noon with the same intensity.
Temperature:
4–13°C
In Western Macedonia, 3–5°C lower.
IONIAN ISLANDS – EPIRUS – WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE – WESTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather:
Showers and occasional thunderstorms, locally heavy until morning, gradually weakening.
Snowfall in mountainous areas and occasionally at lower altitudes in Epirus.
Winds:
West to northwest 6–7 Beaufort, locally 8 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.
Temperature:
8–14°C, reaching 16°C in southern areas.
In inland Epirus, 2–4°C lower.
THESSALY – EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE – EUBOEA – EASTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather:
Rapid improvement. Snowfall in mountainous mainland areas.
Winds:
Westerly 5–7 Beaufort, locally 8 Beaufort in eastern and southern areas.
Temperature:
9–16°C
In northern areas, 3–4°C lower.
