Emergency Weather Bulletin for Dangerous Phenomena for 36 Hours, Including a Warning for Attica

Dangerous storms and heavy snowfall are coming

Bad weather expected from Wednesday

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an emergency weather bulletin.

Bad weather is expected in our country from Wednesday, 21-01-2026, until midday Thursday, 22-01-2026, with the main features being:

A. Strong rain and storms from early Wednesday morning in many areas of central and southern Greece, and from Wednesday afternoon in the Aegean.

B. Locally heavy snowfall on Wednesday in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of mainland Greece, as well as in low-altitude areas of Thessaly and Macedonia.

C. Locally gale-force winds.

More specifically:

A. Strong rain and storms are expected:

a. In the Peloponnese (mainly Messinia, Laconia, Argolis, and Corinth) on Wednesday until the afternoon.

b. In eastern Central Greece and Evia from late morning until the evening on Wednesday.

c. In Attica around midday to afternoon on Wednesday.

d. In Thessaly, the Sporades, and the Cyclades on Wednesday afternoon.

e. On the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean from late Wednesday night until late Thursday morning.

f. In the Dodecanese on Thursday until midday.

It should be noted that the phenomena will be particularly intense and pose the greatest danger in eastern and southern Peloponnese, Attica, Evia, the Sporades, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese.

B. Heavy snowfall is expected on Wednesday:

a. Until midday in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of the Peloponnese (mainly Arcadia, Achaia, and Corinth).

b. Until the afternoon in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Epirus and western and central Central Greece.

c. In Thessaly in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, and locally in lowland areas until the afternoon.

d. In western Macedonia until the afternoon.

e. In central Macedonia from midday to afternoon.

f. In the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of eastern Macedonia and the mountains of Thrace from afternoon to evening.

It should be noted that snowfall will be particularly heavy in the region of western Macedonia and the regional units of Trikala, Karditsa, and Evrytania.

C. Gale-force southeast winds (8–9 Beaufort) will blow until midday on Wednesday, 21-01-2026, in the northern Ionian, and until Thursday morning, 22-01-2026, in the southern and central Aegean.
