Donald Trump invited Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the Peace Council on Gaza in February

Greece is evaluating the invitation, according to government sources – an invitation was also extended to the President of Cyprus

Newsroom February 8 01:22

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has received an invitation to participate in a meeting of the Peace Council concerning the implementation of the second phase of the peace plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Government sources confirm that Donald Trump’s invitation has been received and is currently under review. The meeting is expected to take place in February in Washington.

Invitation also extended to the President of Cyprus

An invitation to participate in the meeting was also received by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, according to the Cyprus News Agency.

The Peace Council is expected to include 25 countries, among them those that took part in the ceremony in Sharm El Sheikh, which was attended by both Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Christodoulides.

Concerns regarding the Peace Council

The Council was founded by Donald Trump in late January, with the founding act signed on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The stated goal of the American president is for the Peace Council—of which he plans to be president for life—to “resolve global conflicts.”

Many leaders have received invitations to join this new body. Among them is Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who accepted. However, criticism has been voiced regarding attempts to bypass the United Nations.
