Urgent Weather Alert until Saturday afternoon for storms and hail – When the bad weather will hit Attica

The onset of severe weather begins tomorrow, Friday, and will last for 48 hours

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) issued an urgent weather deterioration bulletin today.

According to the bulletin: “A temporary deterioration of the weather with heavy rain, storms, and possibly localized hail is expected from the early hours of Friday (20/2) until Saturday afternoon (21/2), initially in the northwestern part of the country, gradually spreading to the rest of western Greece, the northeastern mainland, and the eastern Aegean.”

At the same time, strong south winds, reaching 7 and locally 8 on the Beaufort scale, will blow on Friday (20-02-26), temporarily in the Ionian Sea and gradually in the central and northern Aegean.

Where the Bad Weather Will Hit

According to HNMS’s urgent bulletin, heavy rain and storms are expected in the following areas:

Friday

a. Northern Ionian (Corfu region, Diapontia islands, Paxos) and Epirus, from early morning until late morning
b. The rest of the Ionian and western Sterea, from morning until afternoon
c. Western and southern Peloponnese, from late morning until late afternoon
d. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, from the afternoon
e. The rest of Peloponnese, eastern Sterea (including Attica), and Euboea, temporarily from early evening until late at night
f. The islands of the northeastern Aegean, from early evening

Saturday

a. Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean islands, until afternoon
b. The islands of the eastern Aegean, until noon
c. The Dodecanese, from early morning until noon

Severe Weather: Civil Protection Guidelines

According to the Urgent Weather Deterioration Bulletin (EDek) issued today, Thursday, 19 February 2026, by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), a temporary worsening of the weather with heavy rain, storms, and possibly localized hail is expected from the early hours of Friday (20-02-2026) until Saturday afternoon (21-02-2026), initially in the northwestern part of the country and gradually in the rest of western Greece, the northeastern mainland, and the eastern Aegean.

Strong south winds, reaching 7 and locally 8 Beaufort, will blow on Friday (20-02-2026), temporarily in the Ionian Sea and gradually in the central and northern Aegean.
