Thousands of people who fled their homes in southern Lebanon and in areas west of the capital have taken refuge along the waterfront of Beirut after heavy bombardments by the Israel Defense Forces.

Aleiferis reports from the scene, which has effectively turned into a refugee camp. Many people are sleeping in their cars or on the sidewalks, where they have spread blankets. He also speaks with Lebanese residents who describe the authorities as unprepared to deal with the crisis and captures the uncertainty and insecurity people are experiencing.

Among the displaced are babies—even as young as five days old—living in extremely poor conditions.

At the same time, authorities have decided to remove them from the area because it is a tourist district of the city. Efforts are underway to relocate them elsewhere, a move that has created tension.

The toll from the attacks in Lebanon is heavy. More than 130 people have been killed, hundreds injured, and dozens of homes destroyed, leaving behind a new wave of displaced residents.
