Special police operations were conducted during the morning hours of March 4 and March 11, 2026 in Roma settlements in Paiania and Spata by the Hellenic Police, resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals for electricity theft and the removal of 230 meters of cables.
During the operations, a crew from Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) also participated and proceeded with dismantling the 230 meters of cables that were being used for electricity theft. A police dog also took part in the operation.
According to the police, the aim was to prevent and combat all forms of illegal activity that have been recorded in these areas. Officers involved came from several units, including the Northeastern Attica Police Directorate, the Spata–Artemida Police Department, the Paiania Police Department, the Spata–Artemida Crime Investigation and Detection Unit, the OPKE special police unit, the Attica Traffic Police Directorate, and the Attica Police Operations Directorate.
The arrested individuals were brought before the competent prosecutorial authority.
