Tension erupted in the Greek Parliament during today’s session when Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis intervened, claiming that the president of the “Course of Freedom” party, Zoi Konstantopoulou, was recording the proceedings on video just before she was to speak. The incident caused immediate disruption in the chamber, leading the presiding officer to suspend the session.

The confrontation occurred as Zoi Konstantopoulou approached the podium. Georgiadis interrupted the proceedings and requested to speak: “Excuse me, what is being recorded on the video? Excuse me, Mr. President,” he said initially, continuing, “I do not accept this.” Konstantopoulou responded by asking the presiding officer: “Do I have the floor?”

The minister insisted, denouncing the recording: “Stop. She is filming us. Let the President of Parliament come here. I do not accept being filmed. Please.” Konstantopoulou reacted sharply: “Look at this bullying,” to which Georgiadis replied again, demanding: “Please, let the President of Parliament come here.”

The presiding officer, Giannis Plakiotakis, attempted to calm the situation, saying, “Please, Minister,” but the tension persisted, ultimately leading him to suspend the session. Even after the break, the atmosphere remained charged. Returning to her seat, Konstantopoulou remarked: “They suspended the session for the fascist.”

Later, describing the incident to fellow MPs, Minister Georgiadis explained: “I ate a cracker because I’ve had severe stomach pain since this morning, and I saw that Konstantopoulou and Kazamias were filming me. I asked them to stop, but they refused, so I called on Mr. Plakiotakis to intervene.”
