Taxi owners and drivers have launched recurring 24-hour strikes to express their disagreement with provisions of a bill being discussed today in the relevant parliamentary committee. The bill concerns electric-powered professional vehicles, special licenses, and issues related to the criminal records of professional drivers.
According to SATA’s official statement, “The sector’s strike actions will continue for as long as the committee proceedings last. (…) The proposed bill by the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport downgrades the work of taxi drivers, strengthens unfair competition, legitimizes piracy, and creates unsafe conditions for professional taxi drivers.”
The announcement adds that “strictly for urgent health cases and vulnerable groups, citizens may contact regional Radio Taxi Cooperatives, which will provide safety-equipped vehicles with clearly marked signs on the front windshield.”
