Easter 2026 Shop Opening Hours Announced
Trade associations have released the proposed opening hours for shops during the Easter holiday period.
The Commercial Association of Athens announced its suggested schedule for the festive season, which is expected to run as follows:
- Thursday, April 2: 09:00 – 21:00
- Friday, April 3: 09:00 – 21:00
- Saturday, April 4: 09:00 – 16:00
- Sunday, April 5 (Palm Sunday): 11:00 – 16:00
- Monday, April 6 – Thursday, April 9: 09:00 – 21:00
- Friday, April 10 (Good Friday): 13:00 – 19:00
- Saturday, April 11 (Holy Saturday): 09:00 – 15:00
Shops will remain closed on Easter Sunday (April 12) and Easter Monday (April 13).
Thessaloniki
The Commercial Association of Thessaloniki has also announced its Easter schedule:
- Thursday, April 2 & Friday, April 3: 10:00 – 21:00
- Saturday, April 4: 10:00 – 18:00
- Sunday, April 5 (Palm Sunday): 11:00 – 18:00
- Monday, April 6 – Thursday, April 9: 10:00 – 21:00
- Friday, April 10 (Good Friday): 13:00 – 19:00
- Saturday, April 11 (Holy Saturday): 10:00 – 16:00
All shops will be closed on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
What applies on Good Friday
According to the law, shops across the country may operate on Good Friday only after 1:00 p.m., and employees can be scheduled to work from that time onward.
However, municipalities may set different opening hours if local conditions require it, following a request from the relevant trade association.
Easter Monday is a public holiday, and all shops remain closed.
Piraeus
The Piraeus Trade Association has announced the following proposed opening hours, in effect from April 2 to April 11:
- Thursday, April 2: 09:00 – 21:00
- Friday, April 3: 09:00 – 21:00
- Saturday, April 4: 09:00 – 16:00
- Sunday, April 5: 11:00 – 16:00
- Monday, April 6 – Thursday, April 9: 09:00 – 21:00
- Friday, April 10 (Good Friday): 13:00 – 19:00
- Saturday, April 11 (Holy Saturday): 09:00 – 15:00
Shops will be closed on Monday, April 13, and will return to their normal operating hours from Tuesday, April 14.
In its announcement, the Piraeus Trade Association encourages consumers to support local businesses for their Easter shopping, highlighting the festive atmosphere, competitive prices, product quality, and the personalized service offered in the city’s market.
