The three arrested men allegedly involved in the case of the death of 19-year-old Myrtos are being brought before the investigator and the prosecutor of Kefalonia this morning.
A criminal prosecution was brought against them, which was upgraded to manslaughter by omission, with a reference to articles 299 and 15 of the Criminal Code.
The 23-year-old’s lawyer blames doctors
The 23-year-old’s lawyer, Panagiotis Theodorakopoulos, said in statements outside the Kefalonia court that the unfortunate Myrto arrived alive at the hospital and noted that “the doctors were there; there were none.”
Specifically, he said: “I express my condolences to the family of Myrto and the state and the minister, let them look back to see what happened on that particular night when the girl went to the hospital alive. Where were the doctors? I’m sorry to say there were none. The ambulance was informed, and they came and took the girl; she was already alive. Now, from there, investigate it, tell us what happened.
My client called the ambulance from his phone. They took her downstairs for an ambulance to come and get her. I know my client was in the room cleaning it. I don’t know what they were cleaning, and I don’t care to know. The cell phone, she went to the hospital, was informed that she was dead, and then took it to the store where they were hanging out, for her friend to pick it up. A 23-year-old kid who hasn’t bothered the authorities for anything, and the prosecutor is calling him dangerous and bringing him up on a serious charge leading to a life sentence, we’ll talk.”
However, yesterday, the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiades, denied the specific allegations in a post on X.
As he noted in his post, “the rural doctor on duty was the first to be contacted and in less than a minute and a half, the cardiologist on duty was down in the emergency room and in less than 7 minutes the anesthesiologist on duty.”
“Unfortunately, Myrto had arrived at the hospital with her last breaths, and it was not possible to save her,” Adonis Georgiades noted.
The post in detail:
“Regarding the case of the unfortunate Myrtou from Kefalonia and the complaints about the lack of doctors from the emergency room, I recently spoke with the Governor of the 6th Medical Center, who investigated the incident by speaking with the Hospital Governor, the Director of Nursing, and the staff of the emergency room who were on duty at that time.
Shortly before 05:00, the ambulance of the ambulance service entered the hospital with a siren. Immediately, the hospital’s health workers realized the seriousness of the incident. The rural doctor on duty was contacted first, and in less than a minute and a half, the on-call cardiologist was down in the emergency room, and in less than 7 minutes, the on-call anesthesiologist. All necessary efforts were made ( CPR, intubation, administration of adrenaline and other drugs), but unfortunately, Myrto had reached the hospital with her last breaths and could not be saved.
I express my sincere condolences to her family.”
