Positive signals for the resumption of talks between the United States and Iran could emerge as early as Friday, according to Donald Trump and sources from Pakistan speaking to the New York Post.

Sources in Islamabad referred to ongoing mediation efforts with Tehran, raising the possibility of further peace talks taking place within the next “36 to 72 hours.” When asked, Donald Trump responded that it is “possible,” leaving the door open for developments.

This comes one day after the U.S. president announced an extension of the existing ceasefire with Iran, until the Iranian side submits a unified proposal, overcoming its internal divisions.

In a post on Tuesday on the Truth Social platform, Trump said he had instructed U.S. military forces to maintain the blockade and remain on alert, noting that the ceasefire will continue until a proposal is submitted and negotiations are completed.

Meanwhile, according to Pakistani sources, Islamabad continues its diplomatic contacts with Tehran, with the aforementioned timeframe based on assessments of the progress of these efforts.

The same sources note that, despite strong rhetoric, the ceasefire is so far being upheld, with no military escalation recorded by either side—something interpreted as a sign of a willingness to continue dialogue.
