Donald Trump has dispatched special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan for talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, CNN reported, citing two US government officials.
Earlier, a Pakistani government source said Araghchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad this evening with a small delegation, adding that peace talks with the US are likely to take place. However, the source did not specify who the Iranian foreign minister is scheduled to meet.
In a post on X, Araghchi said he is embarking on visits to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia to coordinate with partners on bilateral issues and to consult on regional developments.
Islamabad hosted the first round of talks between the US and Iran last week aimed at ending the war, but the discussions did not produce a breakthrough.
