Traffic remains heavy on the main roads out of Attica as the May Day long-weekend getaway continues, with many excursionists who did not leave on Thursday night setting off gradually from early Friday morning.
Traffic on most national highways is increasing as the day progresses, with the biggest problems recorded at the Elefsina tolls, the Afidnes tolls and on the Athens-Corinth national highway near Skaramangas.
Delays are also being reported on Attiki Odos in the direction of Elefsina. According to the latest traffic update, drivers are facing delays of 15 to 20 minutes from the Aspropyrgos junction to Elefsina, as well as 10 to 15 minutes at the exit towards Lamia.
At this time, vehicles are moving at low speed on Athinon Avenue, from Palataki in Haidari to the Aspropyrgos refineries, as well as on Schistou Avenue towards Skaramangas. Traffic is also particularly heavy on the northbound section of Kifisos Avenue.
Congestion is also significant on the Athens-Corinth national highway, where delays begin shortly before the Elefsina tolls and continue as far as Megara. Difficulties are also being reported on the stretch from Kineta to Agioi Theodoroi.
The situation is better on the Athens-Lamia national highway, where traffic is generally moving normally, apart from some minor delays at the Afidnes tolls.
Due to the increased movement of excursionists, personnel and equipment from the Hellenic Police – particularly the Traffic Police services – have been placed on heightened operational readiness. Increased measures are in force across the country’s road network, with the aim of ensuring safe travel and preventing road accidents.
According to official Traffic Police figures, from 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, until 6:00 a.m. today, 50,069 vehicles passed through the tolls towards Corinth, while 37,758 vehicles headed towards Lamia.
