London is the next stop in the effort to attract highly skilled professionals from the Greek diaspora and connect them with leading companies active in Greece.
On May 9, 2026, the “Rebrain Greece” initiative by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security returns to London, aiming to further strengthen the link between Greeks abroad and the domestic job market.
The event, hosted at the London Hilton Metropole, will bring together Greek professionals thriving overseas with 35 major business groups operating in Greece, offering hundreds of specialized and senior-level positions across key sectors of the economy. These include finance and banking, energy, construction and industry, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, transport and tourism, media and entertainment, as well as consulting and auditing services.
Speaking to Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Kerameus stated:
“The outward-looking ‘Rebrain Greece’ initiative will take place on May 9 in London, with the participation of 35 of the largest business groups operating in Greece and seeking specialized personnel. This is a real opportunity for our compatriots in the United Kingdom who wish to explore the possibility of returning to our country. Greece in 2026 is competitive and offers significant professional opportunities. Between 2010 and 2024, around 730,000 of our fellow citizens left Greece, while more than 470,000 have already returned. We aim to encourage the repatriation of Greeks, inform them about the domestic job market and the opportunities available. We are not complacent; on the contrary, we are intensifying our efforts so that the talented minds who left can return to our country.”
Similar events have already taken place in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, London, Stuttgart, and New York City, attracting more than 6,500 visitors and involving 120 delegations of leading Greek companies and industry bodies.
The initiative is part of a broader national outward-looking strategy aimed at addressing and reversing the effects of brain drain, a phenomenon that drove hundreds of thousands of Greeks abroad during the economic crisis.
As Kerameus has previously noted, according to Eurostat data for the period 2010–2024, 734,973 citizens left Greece, while 473,042 have already returned, with the “brain gain” rate estimated at 64%.
Notably, the migration balance was positive in 2024 (+19,852 returns), exceeding the previous year — marking the second positive balance recorded since 2009.
At the same time, the government has introduced targeted incentives for repatriation, such as a 50% reduction in income tax for seven years for individuals who were tax residents abroad for at least five years. This favorable measure has recently been extended to Greeks returning to work in the public sector.
Additionally, new procedures are in place for the fast-track recognition of qualifications for Greek doctors working in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.
