Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said today that while much is being said about the vast potential of U.S.-Russia relations, in reality “nothing is happening.”
Since his return to the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump has restored dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin and has repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine, a goal he has so far not achieved.
Lavrov noted that positive rhetoric about cooperation in areas such as technology, energy, and other joint projects has not translated into concrete results. “Nothing has happened in real life,” he said, while adding that Moscow still appreciates Trump’s initiative to resume dialogue.
“Beyond this regular dialogue—which is normal in relations between countries—everything else follows the pattern initiated by President Biden,” the Russian foreign minister said, referring to the former U.S. president.
He added that sanctions imposed during Biden’s presidency remain in place, and that the Trump administration has also introduced its own measures targeting Russia’s economy.
Lavrov made the remarks in an interview with RT India, speaking in English.
