Trump is currently meeting at the White House with close aides — specifically in the Situation Room — regarding the agreement with Iran, for which the two sides have reportedly reached a common framework.

So far, however, neither the leadership in Washington nor Tehran has officially given the green light, with Iran even contradicting Trump regarding the contents of this memorandum of understanding.

Earlier, the American president described in a Truth Social post the framework of demands toward Iran: open navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without mines or “tolls” imposed by Tehran, as well as the surrender of all enriched uranium to be destroyed under the supervision of the IAEA.

Iran, on the other hand, responded that such terms do not exist in the memorandum and is demanding the immediate release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian funds.

What Trump’s post said

Donald Trump’s post was essentially a list of Washington’s demands to Tehran, with the Strait of Hormuz and enriched uranium being the most important issues for the American president.

• The Strait must open to all ships without tolls and be cleared of Iranian mines so that navigation can proceed safely. Many mines have already been destroyed by the U.S., and “not many remain,” according to Trump. At the same time, ships trapped in the Persian Gulf blockade would be allowed to continue to their destinations.
• Iran — as Trump stated from the outset — will never obtain nuclear weapons.
• The U.S. will retrieve Iran’s enriched uranium, which Trump claims is buried deep inside underground facilities bombed by the United States last summer. According to Trump, only the U.S. and China have the engineering capability to extract it. The material would then be destroyed under IAEA supervision.
• Finally, Trump appears to set aside, for now, the issue of unfreezing Iranian funds, noting that “other smaller issues” have already been agreed upon.
