The former SYRIZA MP and journalist Nasos Athanasiou has died at the age of 75.
He was involved in politics and served as SYRIZA MP for Attica from May 2012 until 2023.
In 2023, he left SYRIZA and joined New Left, participating in the Transitional Nationwide Coordinating Committee of New Left.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) and, at critical moments, represented it at the International Federation of Journalists.

Who Nasos Athanasiou was
Nasos Athanasiou was born in Aigaleo on March 2, 1951.
He was a graduate of the Law School of the University of Athens and worked as a journalist for the newspapers Ethnos, Kathimerini, Eleftheros Typos, and the magazines Ena and Eikones.
On February 2, 1976, he began presenting a daily midday news programme on ERT. He also worked on the TV station ET1 with Giorgos Papadakis and Semina Digeni in the news programme “Three in the Air”. For many years he worked at the Mega Channel television station presenting “The Show”.
He was involved in local government. He served as a prefectural councillor of Athens and a municipal councillor of Athens.
He was involved in politics and served as SYRIZA MP for Attica from May 2012 until 2023.
In 2023, he left SYRIZA and joined New Left, participating in the Transitional Nationwide Coordinating Committee of New Left.
His books include “Personal Paradises” (a novel), as well as children’s books “The Tree That Became an Angel”, “Trion the Trout”, and “The Crooked Fir Tree”.
