The return of Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the United States appears to be accelerating his decisions regarding the reshuffle, while the resignation of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment, Thymios Bakogiannis, and the resulting vacancy in the spatial planning portfolio also appears to be part of the equation.
According to cross-checked information, Mr. Mitsotakis is leaning toward more targeted changes in the government structure, which means that the chances of Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis being moved from his position are decreasing. The changes will take place today or, at the latest, tomorrow.
In this context, the position currently held by Konstantinos Kyranakis appears likely to be taken over by Giorgos Kotsiras, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Finance.
It is worth noting that Mr. Marinakis was asked today by journalists whether he would be leaving. “Are you in a hurry to get rid of me?” he replied jokingly, and later stated during the briefing of political correspondents that he will introduce a bill to the Parliament plenary on Thursday. A key figure in the equation for the position of Deputy Minister of Transport is now the Deputy Minister of Finance, Giorgos Kotsiras, who would then need to be replaced.
At the same time, Tasos Chatzivasileiou appears to be returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy Minister, with responsibility for preparing Greece’s EU Presidency.
For the position of Deputy Minister of Environment, an MP who is an engineer by profession will be selected, possibly also with experience in local government. The names being considered include Giorgos Kotronias from Fthiotida and Thanasis Zempilis from Euboea, while other MPs with similar professional backgrounds have also been mentioned.
