New threats against Cyprus and those cooperating militarily with it were issued by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, on the occasion of the new agreement between France and the “Greek Cypriot administration.”

According to Ankara, the agreement is “illegal,” as France is not a guarantor power of Cyprus.

Ankara claims that this development violates the 1960 agreements, ignores the rights of Turkish Cypriots, and may contribute to the destabilization of the island.

At the same time, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence reiterated that Turkey will continue to protect the interests and security of the so-called TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), while warning against any military cooperation or alliance that, according to the Turkish position, is directed against Ankara.

“We once again remind that any military alliance targeting the rights and interests of Turkey and the TRNC has no chance of success against Turkey,” the Turkish MOD stated.

The same announcement emphasizes that “the Turkish Armed Forces have the power and determination to deliver the harshest response against hostile attitudes that threaten the security of Turkish Cypriots.”

Ankara reiterates that it will continue to closely monitor developments and take, as it states, all necessary measures to protect its interests and those of the Turkish Cypriot side.
