Weather: Rain and Thunderstorms Across Many Parts of Greece – Forecast for the Coming Days

Halkidiki, the Sporades, Evia, Thrace, and Lemnos are at the center of the unsettled weather, with gradual improvement expected from midday onward

Saturday begins with rain and thunderstorms—locally heavy—in several regions of Greece. The most intense weather is expected in Halkidiki, the Sporades Islands, Evia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean islands.

According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), conditions will gradually improve from midday onward. In the rest of the country, there will be temporary cloud cover with scattered showers, mainly over mainland areas and Crete.

Winds will blow from northern directions, reaching up to 7 Beaufort over the seas, while temperatures will dip slightly in eastern regions before gradually rising again from Sunday.

Detailed Forecast

Macedonia and Thrace

Weather: In Halkidiki, eastern Macedonia, and Thrace, increased cloudiness with rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally strong during the early hours, especially in Halkidiki and possibly eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

Elsewhere, conditions will be mostly clear.

Clouds will redevelop around midday and in the afternoon over central and eastern Macedonia, bringing local showers, mainly in mountainous areas.

Winds: Northerly, 3–5 Beaufort, weakening from the afternoon.

Temperature: 17°C to 27°C. Western Macedonia will be 2–3°C cooler.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Central Greece, Western Peloponnese

Weather: In the western Peloponnese, a few clouds will increase temporarily from midday, producing local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms in mountainous areas during the afternoon.

Elsewhere, generally fair weather with some cloud development over inland mountains during the afternoon.

Winds: Northerly, 3–5 Beaufort; up to 6 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea and locally 7 Beaufort in northern areas from midday onward.

Temperature: 17°C to 29°C, locally reaching 30°C inland. Interior Epirus will be 3–4°C cooler.

Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese

Weather: The Sporades and Evia will experience cloudiness, rain, and thunderstorms until early afternoon, with locally strong storms through the late morning.

Elsewhere, scattered clouds with local showers. Isolated thunderstorms are expected mainly during the morning in eastern Thessaly and eastern Central Greece, and possibly during the afternoon in the eastern Peloponnese.

Most areas will see conditions improve from early afternoon, though rain may persist in the eastern Peloponnese until late evening.

Winds: Northerly, 3–5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in eastern areas, easing late in the day.

Temperature: 17°C to 27–28°C, locally up to 29°C inland.

Cyclades and Crete

Weather: In Crete, periods of increased cloudiness with local showers and possibly isolated afternoon thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous areas.

In the Cyclades, a few clouds, temporarily increasing in northern sections before noon with brief local showers.

Winds: Northerly, 3–5 Beaufort; up to 6 Beaufort in the Cyclades and locally 7 Beaufort in eastern areas.

Temperature: 21°C to 26–27°C, locally reaching 28°C in Crete.

Eastern Aegean Islands and Dodecanese

Weather: Increased cloudiness with local showers and isolated thunderstorms across the eastern Aegean islands until late afternoon.

In northern areas, especially around Lemnos, conditions may be locally severe during the morning.

The Dodecanese will remain generally sunny.

Winds: Northern areas: northerly 4–6 Beaufort, locally 7 Beaufort. Southern areas: west to northwest winds 3–5 Beaufort, increasing to 6 Beaufort during the afternoon.

Temperature: 20°C to 28°C, locally 29–30°C in southern areas.

Attica

Weather: Partly cloudy, with cloud cover temporarily increasing until the afternoon. Local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms are expected through midday, especially in eastern and northern parts of the region.

Winds: Northerly, 3–5 Beaufort, locally up to 6 Beaufort in eastern areas.

Temperature: 20°C to 27–28°C.

Thessaloniki

Weather: Partly cloudy, with increased cloud cover during the afternoon and a chance of isolated showers in nearby mountains.

  • Winds: Variable 2–4 Beaufort in western regions; north-northwesterly 3–5 Beaufort in the east, locally 6 Beaufort in the Aegean.
  • Temperatures will rise slightly, reaching 27–29°C in most areas and 30–32°C locally inland.

Forecast for Monday, June 15, 2026

  • Generally sunny weather nationwide.
  • Some afternoon cloud development over inland areas, where isolated showers may occur in mountainous regions.
  • Winds mostly light and variable; northwesterly 4–5 Beaufort over southern seas, briefly up to 6 Beaufort in southeastern areas.
  • Temperatures will rise slightly further across the country.

Forecast for Tuesday, June 16, 2026

  • Mostly sunny across nearly all of Greece.
  • In northeastern regions, afternoon cloud development may bring isolated showers.
  • Winds: West to northwest, 3–5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in southern areas.
  • Temperatures will continue to increase slightly.

Forecast for Wednesday, June 17, 2026

  • High, thin cloud cover will gradually thicken during the afternoon.
  • Local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly over the mountainous areas of northern mainland Greece.
  • Winds: Northerly, 3–5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort in the Aegean and possibly 7 Beaufort locally.
  • Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.

The unsettled weather affecting parts of Greece on Saturday will gradually ease during the day. From Sunday onward, conditions become increasingly stable, with mostly sunny weather, only isolated mountain showers, and a gradual warming trend through the middle of next week.
