New data in the case of the death of the man who was murdered on Saturday night in Exarchia have emerged. According to information from protothema.gr, the victim is a 25-year-old Turkish national who had been in Greece since November 2024.

Although the motives that led to the crime have not yet been clarified, the victim’s nationality has raised alarm among authorities, who are investigating whether this is yet another case of score-settling between members of Turkish criminal groups. Reports indicate that in the past the 25-year-old had been detained twice—once in Volos and once in Athens.

The murder took place on the steps leading up to Strefi Hill, with residents reporting that they were disturbed by at least five consecutive gunshots. The perpetrator, according to statements taken by police officers, fled toward Strefi Hill, and the area was quickly sealed off by police. Five shell casings were found at the scene.

The victim was known in the neighborhood and was often seen outside with his small dog.

At the time he was hit by five (or six) bullets to the head and chest from a 9mm weapon, the dog was with him. When police officers and emergency medical services arrived at the injured man—and confirmed his death—they noticed that the dog was silent and had hidden under the arm of the deceased. Despite pleas from officers and residents, it did not leave him, and as it was in shock they decided not to move it.
