Tension broke out between relatives of the victims and Greek Opposition Leader Zoe Konstantopoulou during the trial over the Tempi tragedy, following remarks made by the president of the Course of Freedom party about the case.
According to the Greek broadcaster SKAI, the tension rose when Konstantopoulou made pointed comments about the legal defence of some of the central figures in the trial. She then referred to the “cover-up” and to the investigations carried out at the crash site in order to support her position regarding the television coverage.
Her remarks prompted a reaction from some relatives, who expressed their disagreement with what she had said. A highly tense situation followed, with relatives turning against Ms Konstantopoulou and asking her not to refer to the victims of Tempi in general terms. They said her comments had been made simply in order to attract attention.
For her part, Zoe Konstantopoulou said that some of the relatives were turning against her, which led to renewed tension.
