Temporary changes to train schedules on the Athens–Thessaloniki axis will be in effect from June 22 to June 24, 2026, due to planned railway infrastructure works.

OSE is carrying out restoration works on the Lianokladi–Larissa section, addressing damage caused by the extreme weather events “Daniel” and “Elias”.

During the works, Hellenic Train will replace rail services with buses on the Lianokladi–Thessaloniki section to serve passengers.

Suburban rail services between Larissa and Thessaloniki will continue to operate normally.

Passengers are advised to check timetable details via the company’s website and customer service center.

Temporary timetable adjustments on the Athens–Thessaloniki rail axis will be in place from June 22 to June 24, 2026, due to scheduled restoration works on railway infrastructure carried out by the Infrastructure Manager, Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE), on the Lianokladi–Larissa section, according to Hellenic Train.

The works are part of the broader reconstruction programme for infrastructure in Thessaly affected by the extreme weather events “Daniel” and “Elias” and are considered necessary for the progress and completion of the projects.

To serve passengers, Hellenic Train will deploy buses replacing rail services on the Lianokladi–Thessaloniki section in both directions.

Athens – Thessaloniki services (IC50 and IC56)

Trains will operate on their regular route up to Lianokladi. From there, passengers will transfer to Hellenic Train buses with destinations including:

  • Thessaloniki (direct)
  • Platy (direct)
  • Katerini (direct)
  • Paleofarsalos – Larissa

In addition, a bus service will operate from Paleofarsalos, serving Larissa, Katerini and Platy in sequence, with final destination Thessaloniki. Departures from Paleofarsalos will take place at 10:00 and 21:00.

Thessaloniki – Athens services (IC51 and IC57)

Passengers will initially travel by bus from Thessaloniki and intermediate stations to Lianokladi, where they will continue their journey to Athens by train after transfer.

Bus services will include:

  • Thessaloniki – Lianokladi (direct), departing at 05:55 and 16:49
  • Platy – Lianokladi (direct), departing at 06:20 and 17:14
  • Katerini – Lianokladi (direct), departing at 06:43 and 17:37
  • Larissa – Paleofarsalos – Lianokladi, departing at 07:26 and 18:20

An additional bus will operate the full route Thessaloniki – Platy – Katerini – Larissa – Paleofarsalos – Lianokladi, with departures from Thessaloniki at 05:55 and 16:49.
