Greek police have arrested the suspect accused of stabbing and killing a 17-year-old boy during a violent clash in Kallithea, southern Athens, on Wednesday night, June 24.

The teenager is believed to have been stabbed in the chest during a fight outside an apartment building on Megaloupoleos.

An ambulance from Greece’s emergency medical service, EKAV, was called to the scene and took the boy to Ippokrateio hospital in serious condition. Despite doctors’ efforts, he died from his injuries a short time later.

Knife found as police examine possible fan-related motive

Earlier, police said a knife believed to have been used in the attack had been found during searches in the area. It will be sent to forensic laboratories for further examination and identification.

One of the main lines of inquiry being examined by the police security division is whether the fatal attack was linked to football fan violence.
