“I always wanted to keep my child with me, I could not accept his death,” the German woman told the narcotics investigating magistrate.

“I looked after the children three times a week, I know nothing about the dead child,” the Afghan man claimed.

The three defendants in the harrowing Kypseli case were sent to prison today after testifying before the investigating magistrate handling narcotics cases.

They are a 43-year-old Greek man, his 38-year-old German partner, and a 26-year-old Afghan national, all arrested at a flat on Thassou Street in Kypseli, where authorities found a frozen infant inside a container in a suitcase.

The three testified at the Athens courts, housed in the former Evelpidon military academy, on charges of drug trafficking and failing to report the discovery of a body.

Immediately afterwards, with the prosecutor’s agreement, all three were taken to prison. At the same time, prosecutors pressed separate charges against the first two defendants, the 43-year-old Greek man and the 38-year-old German woman, over the infant’s killing. A new case file will bring the three defendants back before the courts again tomorrow to testify further.

The claims

“I deny the charges, I did not commit the offences I am accused of. I am innocent. The drugs were for my own use. I appeal to the leniency of Greek justice,” the 38-year-old German woman is reported to have told the investigating magistrate. Asked about the dead infant found by authorities in the suitcase inside the flat she shared with her two co-defendants, she reportedly replied: “I always wanted to keep my child with me, I could not accept his death.” She is also reported to have said she is addicted to drugs and requested a formal assessment.

The 43-year-old defendant, her partner, is reported to have said: “I deny the charge of drug trafficking. I am a drug addict, I request to undergo the relevant examination.”

Finally, during his own testimony to the investigating magistrate, the 26-year-old Afghan national said he knew nothing about the dead infant. “I looked after the children three times a week. I know nothing about the dead child. I never saw any money in the house,” he is reported to have said, among other things.

Homicide charge

Meanwhile, the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office has brought criminal charges over the murder of the infant.

Specifically, the two defendants face charges of intentional homicide of a family member, committed jointly, illegal possession and use of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, committed jointly, and making false statements, both repeatedly and on a single occasion. Charges were also brought against the 26-year-old Afghan national, who also lived at the Kypseli flat and is alleged to have been in a relationship with the 38-year-old woman’s underage daughter, who is pregnant.

Specifically, the 26-year-old faces charges of sexual acts with a minor, both before and after she turned 12, as well as making a false statement and illegally possessing ammunition.

The three defendants will testify again over these new charges brought against them. Arrest warrants, a standard procedural step, were issued against them shortly before this report, and they are expected to be brought before an investigating magistrate again tomorrow.

New revelations about the 43-year-old

At the same time, new details are emerging about the 43-year-old’s criminal record. He is reportedly also implicated in a second, separate case involving procuring and rape, dating from 2020 to 2021.

That case file was originally opened by the prosecutor’s office in northern Greece and was referred to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office in 2025, where a preliminary investigation is still under way.

The other procuring and rape case, also involved a German woman. He was held in pre-trial detention over that case but was later released after the file was shelved when the woman withdrew her original complaint.
