A tragedy unfolded in Halkidiki after the father, who had been critically injured in the road accident, also succumbed to his injuries. Earlier, his wife and infant child had been killed instantly in the crash on the Polygyros–Agios Nikolaos provincial road. The couple’s other minor child remains hospitalised.
The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (15 July), when the car, bearing Moldovan licence plates and carrying the parents and their two children, collided with a fuel tanker. Firefighters who arrived at the scene launched a rescue operation using specialised extrication equipment. A woman and an infant were recovered from the vehicle unconscious, while a man and a minor child were freed with severe injuries, reportedly including traumatic brain injuries.
Emergency medical services (EKAB) responded immediately, initially dispatching a rapid-response motorcycle, followed by three ambulances. The four occupants of the car, along with the driver of the fuel tanker, were transported to hospital.
Sadly, the father, who had sustained critical injuries, died in the emergency department of Halkidiki General Hospital. The surviving child remains hospitalised, while the tanker driver is reported to be in good health.
The exact causes and circumstances of the fatal collision are under investigation by the Traffic Police Investigation Department in Polygyros.
