The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Cyprus from July 27 to 29, his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric announced during a press briefing at the UN headquarters in New York.
According to Dujarric, the UN chief will travel to Cyprus “as part of his Good Offices Mission and his strong, practical commitment to the Cyprus issue.”
During his stay on the island, he “will meet with the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, as well as other involved parties,” the spokesperson said.
The Secretary-General’s discussions will focus on “efforts to advance the peace process and support stability on the island,” including through the work of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
“Further details regarding the Secretary-General’s schedule will be provided,” Dujarric added.
