A very high wildfire risk (risk category 4) is forecast for tomorrow in Attica, Crete and parts of the Regions of Central Greece, the Peloponnese and the North Aegean, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
Specifically, a very high wildfire risk is forecast tomorrow for the following areas:
- North Aegean Region (Regional Units of Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria)
- Crete Region
- Attica Region
- Central Greece Region (Regional Unit of Evia)
- Peloponnese Region (Regional Unit of Corinthia)
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has notified the competent state services involved, as well as the regional and municipal authorities in the above areas, so that they remain on increased civil protection readiness in order to immediately respond to any potential wildfire incidents.
According to the Fire Service, the second operational readiness level of the Fire Brigade remains in effect, while aerial surveillance patrols, as well as patrols by fire service, police and military forces, will be increased.
Additionally, personnel of the Fire Service units in the above Regional Units remain on partial alert in order to address the increased operational demands that may arise due to the very high wildfire risk (risk category 4).
At the same time, for the above areas, the Civil Protection Action Plan for addressing risks from forest fires remains in force. Among other measures, it provides for the implementation of preventive restrictions on vehicle access and the presence of visitors in national parks, forests and other vulnerable areas.
The Fire Service is also appealing to citizens to:
- Exercise extreme caution and avoid outdoor activities that could accidentally cause fires, such as burning dry grass, branches or cleaning debris, using equipment that creates sparks such as circular saws and welding devices, using outdoor grills, smoking beehives, throwing lit cigarettes, and similar activities. Citizens are also reminded that agricultural burning is prohibited during the fire prevention season.
- Follow wildfire prevention information available on the Fire Service’s website and its official social media accounts on Facebook and X.
- Immediately notify the Fire Service by calling 199 if they notice a fire.
Finally, the Fire Service urges all citizens to remain particularly vigilant and, in the event of a wildfire, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities strictly for their own safety.
