72-hour heatwave: Which areas will be hit, where temperatures could reach 43°C, according to Tsatrafyllias

Temperatures are expected to reach 41–42°C on Monday in inland areas, while isolated locations in Boeotia, Phthiotis, and Thessaly could see highs of up to 43°C on Tuesday. Cooler weather is expected from Thursday onward

Greece is set to experience a 72-hour heatwave over the coming days, with temperatures peaking on Monday and Tuesday, according to Protothema.gr meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias.

On Monday, temperatures are expected to locally reach 41–42°C in inland areas unaffected by the cooling influence of the sea. On Tuesday, isolated parts of Boeotia, Phthiotis, and Thessaly could see temperatures rise as high as 43°C.

In Attica, temperatures are forecast to reach around 40°C on both Monday and Tuesday, particularly in the Thriasio Plain west of Athens.

On Wednesday, the heatwave is expected to persist in selected regions, including the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Boeotia, and Attica, with temperatures remaining close to 40°C.

Relief is expected to arrive from Thursday, when temperatures are forecast to drop significantly by 8–10°C, followed by the possibility of rain and thunderstorms.

Temperature forecast maps for the coming days have also been released.
