Greek National Tourism Organisation Secretary General Fiorentinos visited the two tourists injured near the Acropolis entrance, confirming they are in good health and expected to be discharged from hospital today as police continue their response

Two tourists injured in a knife attack near the entrance to the Acropolis in Athens are expected to be discharged from hospital today, the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT), Mr Fiorentinos, has said.

Mr Fiorentinos described the incident as “isolated” and confirmed that the Hellenic Police responded immediately after the attack.

In a full statement, Mr Fiorentinos said that from the moment the organisation was informed of the incident, the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, and EOT had been in immediate contact with the relevant authorities and the US Embassy.

He added that he had personally visited the two injured tourists in hospital to convey the Greek government’s support and to thank the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the medical staff treating them.

“The safety of visitors to our country is an absolute priority,” Mr Fiorentinos said. “This was an isolated and extremely unfortunate incident, which was dealt with immediately by the Greek Police.”

He said the two tourists, to whom he wished a speedy and full recovery, were in good health and expected to be discharged today.
