According to the forecast issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), generally clear weather is expected across most parts of the country today (July 21).

Temporary cloud cover is expected over the mainland during the midday and afternoon hours. In northern Greece, mainly in mountainous areas, localized rain showers are expected, while thunderstorms are forecast in Central and Eastern Macedonia, as well as Thrace.

A partial transport of African dust into the atmosphere is expected, mainly affecting western Greece.

In western Greece, winds will initially be light and variable, becoming west to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally up to 5 Beaufort, from midday onward. In eastern Greece, winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort in parts of the Aegean Sea.

Temperatures will remain at high levels. Highs are expected to reach:

  • 33–34°C in the Cyclades,
  • 35–37°C, locally 38°C, across the rest of the islands,
  • 38–39°C, locally 40–41°C, across mainland Greece.

Forecast for Wednesday (July 22)

In northern mainland Greece, a few clouds will quickly increase, bringing localized rain, while scattered thunderstorms are expected mainly in Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia, and Thrace. These weather phenomena are expected to weaken gradually from late afternoon.

Elsewhere in the country, generally clear skies are expected, with temporary cloud development during the midday and afternoon hours over Thessaly, the Sporades, Eastern Central Greece (Sterea Ellada), and Evia (Euboea), where localized rain showers are possible.

A temporary partial transport of African dust is also expected.

Winds will be northwesterly at 4–6 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea and the southeastern parts of the country. In the Aegean, winds will initially be southerly at 3–5 Beaufort, turning north to northeast, locally reaching 6 Beaufort by the afternoon.

Temperatures will decrease in northern Greece, while southern mainland Greece and the southern islands will continue to experience very high temperatures.

Forecast for Thursday (July 23)

In eastern mainland Greece, the Sporades, and Evia, a few clouds will become temporarily denser, producing localized rain and possibly isolated thunderstorms. Conditions are expected to improve gradually from the evening onward.

The rest of the country will experience generally fair weather, with temporary cloud development during the midday and afternoon hours over the mainland, where localized rain showers are possible in mountainous areas.

Winds will blow from northerly directions at 4–6 Beaufort.

Temperatures will decline throughout the country, returning to levels normal for the season.

Forecast for Friday (July 24)

A change in the weather is expected, beginning in western Greece and gradually spreading to central and northern regions, with increasing cloud cover, rain, and scattered thunderstorms. The weather is expected to be locally intense, particularly across the eastern mainland.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually from the west during the evening.
