Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Tasos Hatzivasileiou paid a working visit to Vilnius as part of Greece’s preparations for assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2027.

During his stay in Lithuania, Hatzivasileiou met with his Lithuanian counterpart, Sigitas Mitkus. Their discussions centred on the priorities of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2027, preparations for the Greek Presidency that will follow, and an exchange of views on major European issues, with particular emphasis on security, migration, and the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework.

The two sides also discussed their shared priorities and the close coordination of the Ireland–Lithuania–Greece Presidency Trio, with the aim of ensuring continuity, institutional consistency and a clear strategic direction throughout the 18-month programme.

As part of his visit, Hatzivasileiou also held consultations with officials from the Lithuanian government and visited the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights, sites of particular historical and symbolic importance to Lithuania and to Europe’s shared historical memory.
