Footage included in the case file tracks the movements of the man and the 41-year-old paramedic in the moments before the fatal stabbing in Ano Syros, while the coroner’s report points to a single blow

The critical minutes before the fatal attack in Ano Syros are captured frame by frame in video footage revealed by Protothema.gr, showing the arrival of the 41-year-old paramedic with the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAB), her movements before she passed through the front door of the house, and what followed seconds later up to her death.

According to information from the case file, the recording begins on the afternoon of 23 July, with the 41-year-old woman appearing outside the property before entering the house. Her movements are captured clearly by the security camera, which also records the events that follow.

What follows unfolds within seconds. The footage reportedly captures her movements after she entered the house, as well as the chase on the steps, a detail the authorities are assessing as part of their overall investigation into the case.

The camera captures what happens in front of the entrance and the start of the chase, but not the entire sequence of events that follows in the narrow streets. The 41-year-old was later found around 70 metres from the property, having suffered fatal injuries.

The footage is one of the most significant pieces of evidence for reconstructing what happened that afternoon. It records the movements of the three people involved before the killing in a precise sequence, but it leaves out the most crucial part: what happened after the chase and up to the fatal injury sustained by the 41-year-old.

It is precisely this gap that the authorities are now trying to fill using the other footage that has been gathered, the evidence collected at the scene, witness statements, and digital data. Particular weight is expected to be given to the mobile phones belonging to the 41-year-old, the 40-year-old man, and his partner, as the communications and other data extracted from them may provide answers about what preceded the attack, as well as what exactly happened in the minutes this particular camera did not capture.

The findings of the coroner’s report have also taken on particular significance. According to reports, the cause of death was recorded as chest trauma caused by a sharp, pointed and bladed weapon. The examination found that the 41-year-old had sustained a single blow, which proved fatal.

This detail is considered significant for the criminal assessment of the case, as the fact that only a single blow was struck may be taken into account by the judicial authorities as they further investigate the circumstances in which the killing took place.

The case file is now focused on the sequence of events, the movements recorded by the security camera, and the findings of the forensic examination. This evidence is expected to form the core of the assessment of what happened in the few minutes between the 41-year-old’s arrival at the property and the fatal attack.

The case has shocked the local community on Syros, as the footage and the case file material shed light, step by step, on the events leading up to the killing. The authorities are examining all the evidence with the aim of fully clarifying the circumstances of the killing and the role played by each piece of evidence in the criminal investigation.

The sequence of events

The 40-year-old man is seen climbing the steps towards the main entrance of the property, wearing a grey short-sleeved top, beige shorts, and grey trainers. He talks briefly with neighbours who are nearby, then unlocks the door and goes inside.

Shortly afterwards, his partner arrives. She is carrying a blue plastic bag and has a black rucksack over her right shoulder. With her keys in hand, she approaches the entrance and goes inside the property.

A few minutes later, the 41-year-old EKAB paramedic appears on camera. Her appearance is distinctive: she is wearing a black top, black trousers with two grey stripes down each leg, and black trainers with white soles. She has a rucksack on her back, disposable blue surgical gloves on her hands, while her head is covered with a hood or headscarf and her eyes with black sunglasses.

She climbs the steps and approaches the entrance, remaining outside the door for around 20 seconds. As described in the case file, she appears to be listening to what is happening inside.

She then rings the doorbell with her left hand and leaves the rucksack she is carrying in a corner of the balcony.

What follows is one of the moments being examined especially closely. Up to that point, she has had her right hand hidden inside a black plastic bag. According to the description of the footage, she is then seen holding an object resembling a knife, over what looks like a white towel, with a silver blade visible protruding from it.

Moments later, the door opens. She rushes into the property, and from that instant events unfold within seconds. Voices and a woman’s screams can be heard on the recording.

Within seconds, she appears on camera again, coming out of the house. She picks up the rucksack she had left earlier outside the entrance and starts quickly making her way down the steps.

Almost immediately, the 40-year-old appears at the door. This time he comes out of the house wearing only black underwear. He is holding a wooden chair and, according to the case file, has an object resembling a knife in his right hand.

He shouts something that cannot be made out on the recording and throws the chair towards her as she makes her way down the steps. He then immediately starts running after her.

Moments later, his partner also comes out of the property. According to the recording, she can be heard shouting “help” three times and calling his name twice. She then briefly goes back inside the house before coming out again, this time with the keys, calling his name twice more.

The whole sequence, from the paramedic first appearing on the steps to the partner coming out of the house calling for help, plays out in little more than a minute.
