Greek police have launched a new phase of their investigation to reconstruct the movements of the 38-year-old British woman whose body was found in a suitcase in the Athens district of Kypseli. The identification of the victim revealed that she had travelled to Greece via Scotland, while her mobile phone continued to emit a signal until the case became public.

According to information obtained by ProtoThema.gr, the 38-year-old had arrived in Greece on a flight from Edinburgh—not from Cyprus, as had initially been reported—and was staying at a friend’s home. The same sources said she last communicated with friends on July 15, three days before her body was discovered inside the suitcase.

Authorities were able to identify her through information provided to the Hellenic Police by Interpol’s Washington office. The breakthrough came because the woman had previously lived in the United States, where she had submitted fingerprints as part of the biometric data required for employment.

The British national was born in February 1988. As an initial step, Greek authorities are seeking to determine whether she was travelling with anyone on the day of her arrival in Greece, a question expected to be answered through records held by the airline.

Identification of the Victim

After the body was discovered, Greek authorities collected fingerprints, but no matching records were found in the national database. The shorts bearing the logo of a French university that the victim was wearing proved to be a crucial clue.

All available information was subsequently shared with police forces and Interpol through international law enforcement channels. As the days passed, officers from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime increasingly considered the possibility that the woman was not of Greek origin.

The mystery was finally resolved on Monday night, when Interpol’s U.S. office informed Greek authorities that the victim was a 38-year-old British woman identified by the initials E.R.
