A wildfire broke out in low vegetation at around 11:30am on Monday 3 August in the Vrontou area of Pieria. The Municipality of Dio-Olympos is assisting the operation with water tankers and heavy machinery.

Throughout the incident, the National Coordination Centre for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) is maintaining continuous drone surveillance using thermal and optical cameras.

The Pieria Arson Investigation Unit has been mobilised to establish the cause of the fire.

Weather conditions, with winds blowing across the area, are hampering firefighting efforts.
