Fire-weather conditions will be quite unfavourable today due to high temperatures and gale-force, with gusts locally exceeding 100 km/h.

Indeed, the entire week will be characterised by strong winds, particularly on the eve of and on 15 August. At the same time, according to protothema.gr meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias, no significant rainfall is expected, while the highest temperatures will be recorded mainly in western and northern Greece.

For today, Monday 10 August, a very high fire risk (Category 4) is forecast in Attica and Kythera, much of the Peloponnese, Achaea, Central Greece and Evia, as well as on islands in the northern and southern Aegean and Crete.

Winds will blow from northerly to north-westerly directions. They will be light in the Ionian Sea, while in the Aegean they will locally reach 8 Beaufort, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h.

Temperatures will reach 38-39°C in the western mainland, 37°C in Crete, the Dodecanese and Central Macedonia, and 34°C on the Ionian islands.

In Attica, sunny conditions are forecast, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 35°C. Northerly winds in the east will locally reach 7 Beaufort.

In Thessaloniki, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with a chance of brief showers after midday. Winds in the Thermaic Gulf will be light and temperatures will reach 34°C.
