Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has posted a video on social media rounding up his visit to California, where he met senior executives, investors and researchers from the technology sector.
The footage follows the prime minister through several stops on the trip, including the headquarters of chipmaker Nvidia and venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, both of which he visited on Monday 21 September.
At Nvidia, talks hosted by John Josephakis, global vice president for sales and business development, focused on the significant investment in digital and computing infrastructure under way in Greece. At Sequoia Capital, partners Konstantine Buhler and Doug Leone brought together leading investors, researchers from major technology companies and laboratories, and founders of firms applying artificial intelligence (AI) to fields such as medicine, education, automation and robotics.
The video also shows Mitsotakis taking part in a discussion at an event hosted by Endeavor Greece, the Greek arm of the global non-profit that backs high-growth entrepreneurs, along with scenes from his tour of Tesla’s headquarters and laboratories in Palo Alto.
In one clip, the prime minister stands beside one of the carmaker’s humanoid robots, developed under its Optimus programme, and exchanges a high-five with it.
It is the first time in his years attending the UN General Assembly as prime minister that Mitsotakis has made San Francisco his first stop, as the government seeks to position Greece not only as an investment destination but as a player in the emerging AI ecosystem. He heads to New York on Wednesday to take part in the 81st session of the assembly.
