U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his belief that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, two days before this year’s winner is announced, while also taking a swipe at the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Trump claimed that he has helped bring eight wars to an end since returning to the White House, as the war in Ukraine continues and the United States has become militarily involved in the conflict with Iran.
“I don’t know what their decision will be,” Trump said on Wednesday, referring to the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, which will be announced on Friday, October 9, in Oslo. “They are known for not giving it to people like me,” he added.
The U.S. president has publicly campaigned for the distinction for some time and returned to the subject while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office.
“The time has come,” he said, reiterating his claim that since returning to the presidency in January 2025, he has intervened to help end eight conflicts.
Trump also referred to last year’s winner, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who handed him the Nobel Peace Prize medal she received in 2025 in January.
“It was a great honor to receive it indirectly last time from the winner herself, who said that no one in history deserved it more than President Trump,” he said. The Nobel Institute has clarified, however, that even if the medal changes hands, the title of Nobel laureate remains exclusively with the original recipient.
The nominations and other names
The leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have said they nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. A total of 287 nominations have been registered for this year’s process.
Among the names and organizations mentioned by analysts ahead of this year’s announcement are Pope Leo XIV, the International Criminal Court, and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese.
