Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps, together with units placed under its command, has retaken an additional 101 square kilometers in the Lyman sector of the Donetsk region during the fourth phase of the Operation “Vivaldi”.
According to a post published by the corps on Telegram on Wednesday, Ukrainian forces liberated the villages of Zelena Dolyna, Lipove and Kolodiazi, while Russian forces lost approximately 3,000 soldiers during the operation’s fourth phase.
“The enemy failed to cut off the main supply artery serving our force in Donbas. We intercepted the attack by the ‘Zapad’ group and forced it to transfer some of the units of its 1st Guards Tank Army, which reduced the pressure on Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi,” said the corps’ commander, Ukrainian Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi.
Overall, as part of Operation “Vivaldi,” Ukraine has retaken 16 settlements and 277 square kilometers of territory. “The four seasons of ‘Vivaldi’ have come to an end, but the music continues,” the corps stated.
On September 15, Biletskyi had confirmed that Ukrainian forces under the command of the 3rd Army Corps were carrying out a series of counterattacks north of the city of Lyman, which lies on the front line. At the time, he said the operation had dealt “a powerful blow to the combat capabilities of Russia’s 20th and 25th Combined Arms Armies,” while Ukrainian drone strikes had forced Russian forces to move their supply hubs beyond the state border.
The battle for the “heart” of the Donbas “fortress belt,” which includes Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka, is considered particularly critical ahead of winter. Russia is expected to try to strengthen its footholds in urban areas as much as possible in preparation for its 2027 offensive campaign.
Nearly 500 Drones Headed Toward Moscow, Disrupting Operations at Four Airports
Nearly 500 drones headed toward Moscow overnight, disrupting operations at four airports, while one person was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in Balakovo. Meanwhile, a fire continued to burn at an oil terminal in Rostov-on-Don.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 493 drones headed toward the Russian capital between the evening of October 13 and the morning of October 14, with 180 of them destroyed as they approached the city.
Moscow’s Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports suspended operations because of the threat. Vnukovo remained closed for more than eight hours, while reports indicated that passengers were asked to leave their aircraft.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that a total of 902 Ukrainian drones had been shot down overnight over Russian regions.
