Violent outbreaks are a daily occurrence on the Greek island of Lesbos (Mytilene). New squabbles broke out on Sunday morning as passengers gathered for a seat on the ferry, Eleftherios Venizelos. Anger and scuffles broke out when only 2,500 people were able to secure a ticket to Athens and the police had to intervene.
The ferry was to have set sail for the port of Piraeus at 5.30 a.m. but was still trapped at the port of Mytilene at 9 a.m.
The island is filled to the brim with refugees with over 20,000 migrants estimated to be taking over the squares, parks and available public space. Over 10,000 migrants are believed to still not be registered.
